Raiding The Kitchen Empty
PostSubject: Raiding The Kitchen   Raiding The Kitchen Icon_minitimeSat Aug 14, 2010 4:43 am

Lars dragged Lovino out onto the streets. The nation declared that he could walk by himself though, so Lars let go of him, deciding to ignore the insult in favour of their current mission.

He looked around where to go first. He had three priorities at the moment:
1. Find more nations and figure out what was going on.
2. Gather supplies.
3. Explore the town.

There was nobody in sight. So Lars decided to go for some houses on the other side of the street. Maybe there were people in there. And if not, they could always just raid their kitchen. He wished he wouldn’t be thinking about things like this right now. But a big guy like him needed food to function.

When they entered the house, there was no sign of life. “Anybody here?” Lars called out, hoping for an answer. When nothing came, Lars started to walk through the house. Soon he stumbled upon the kitchen. Perfect. “Look for supplies and weapons.” He told Romano while opening the fridge. There was not much in there. His eyes fell on a couple of beers. He took one out for inspection. Seeing the same label on them as the disgusting beer he had earlier, he made a face and put it back. It was better not to take the risk.

What was left in the fridge were mainly things that needed to be prepared in some way. Not something they had time for right now. Though Lars managed to find some cheese. He took it out and placed on the counter, rummaging through some drawers before finding the knives. “You hungry?” He asked as he chopped off a large chunk and held it out for Romano to take.

The Italian was grateful when Lars let go of him. He didn’t want to feel like an invalid; he didn’t want to be the one slowing them down either. Lovino stumbled forward before regaining his balance. Now he was beginning to feel better…which had to count for something, right? …Well...it didn’t have to, but Lovino hoped it did.

He followed the older man through the town trying to memorize the paths they were taken. If he managed to get split up from Lars at least he’d be able to find his way back in three hours… The Italian sped up a bit to catch up to the older nation. He really didn’t want to be alone right now.

“I don’t think there’s anyone here,” Lovino commented as he looked around the house. It…it looked like a normal enough place…maybe. As they approached the kitchen, the Italian let out a soft sigh of relief. If there was a kitchen there should be food which meant his stomach could stop growling. He was beginning to get annoyed with it.

He frowned when Lars ordered him to begin looking around the kitchen.
“Weapons and supplies, huh?” he questioned beginning to move toward the cabinets. Did that mean medicine or…? With a soft sigh, the Italian began to rummage through everything, putting the useful items onto the counter. Where the hell was he supposed to find weapons? Unless he wanted something like a screwdriver, there wasn’t too much here.

“Yeah. I’m hungry,” Lovino replied as he turned around to face Lars. He took the cheese from the older man with a small mumbled thanks. He wasn’t too fond of the choice of food, but he was too hungry to really complain. “There’s some medicine that I found. Mainly allergy medicine and some prescriptions, but there’s a bottle of pain medicine I want to take with us.” He was really going to need it with the way his wrist was hurting.

PostSubject: Re: Raiding The Kitchen   Raiding The Kitchen Icon_minitimeThu Aug 19, 2010 4:31 pm

Lars let the Italian take the cheese and cut off another large chunk for himself. “That’s good.” Lars told him when Lovino said he found pain medicine. He looked through some cupboards, looking for some kitchen foil. When he found it he wrapped it around the rest of the cheese. “We’re saving this for later. And I’m also taking this.” He twisted the large knife he had used to cut the cheese between his fingers.

Putting the cheese in a plastic bag, along with some other foods that were easy to take with them and didn’t need any preparation, he turned towards Lovino again. “Let’s search the other rooms. I’ll go upstairs, you explore here.” He was about to turn around to head upstairs when he remembered something. “If you happen to find some bullets, bring them back for me.” The gun he had found earlier in that bar was now located in the back of his pants, hidden by his shirt. It was still unloaded, but if he needed it to bluff his way out of a situation, he wouldn’t hesitate to do so.

He headed upstairs, opening a door to see what was behind it. It was a bedroom. The blankets on the bed were clean and untouched, as if nobody had ever slept in it before. It was a bit creepy how everything was prepared for people to live in there, but everything seemed so dead. There was a nightstand beside the bed, but it didn’t contain anything interesting. Just some reading glasses, an alarm clock and a bible.

Not being able to find something interesting, he headed for the next room. It was a bathroom with walls so white that it made Lars think of a hospital. He looked around, examining the room, pulling the shower curtain away and looking in the bathtub, but he couldn’t find a thing that would be useful to them. Only when he opened the lid of the toilet seat he was surprised with something he didn’t expect. Large, hairy spiders were crawling around inside. Now it wasn’t that Lars was particularly squeamish when it came to insects. But the unexpectedness of this all caused him to let out a rather loud sound of surprise as he let the lid fall back closed.

The Italian nodded watching as Lars left the room. He paused for a moment, his mind catching up to him. “Hey! If you can find any bobby pins or something like them, bring them with you,” he called after the older man. He could pick locks pretty easily, but he was going to need something to work with; his lock picking kit was left at home hidden in a drawer so Feliciano wouldn’t find them. He frowned trying to pull himself away from his thoughts. Now was not the time to do this; he needed to focus on the more important things.

A weapon would be really useful around now, but the only knives he could find were regular ones; they weren’t going to help very much. Looking around the room, he noticed a bunch of pots and pans hanging on the wall. Maybe he could be like Elizaveta and use one of them… It’d be better than having nothing to defend himself. With a sigh he grabbed one of the pans and left the kitchen, looking for a good place to start. Maybe if he went to the other end of the house and searched the rooms on the way back…that should help him cover everything.

Lovino sighed and tightened his grip on the frying pan. He didn’t like this town and he didn’t want to be here. The house seemed so normal it was…it was so fucking creepy. He knew there was no one here, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was someone, other than Lars, in the house with him.

Taking a deep breath, he cautiously walked through the archway and into the dining room. Dinner plates were set on the table looking like they were going to be used at any time… A shiver ran down his spine as he moved further into the room. He was hoping to find a back pack or a bag in here; they were going to need something to carry their supplies in after all.

He had been about to open the door to the closet when he heard Lars make a noise. He wasn’t normally that loud. Did something happen to him? Shaking in his spot, Lovino mentally debated what he should do before finally deciding he should go see what was up.
“Hey! Lars! You ok?” he called out, scrambling up the stairs. …It’d be bad if something happened to his shield…er…form of protection…er… He just didn’t want to be left alone.

PostSubject: Re: Raiding The Kitchen   Raiding The Kitchen Icon_minitimeSat Aug 21, 2010 3:39 pm

Lars took a moment to calm himself down. At least now he knew not everything in this town was dead. He told himself it wasn’t unusual to find insects in a bathroom that wasn’t being taken care of. You saw them in old hotels all the time, so it wasn’t that weird. Even though the rest of this bathroom was… spotless.

He wasn’t surprised when he heard Lovino call out to him and stumble up the stairs. The Italian brothers were pretty much know for the fact that they weren’t particularly brave. “I’m alright.” Lars said as he stepped out of the bathroom, into the hallway again. “Let’s just say that there’s at least something alive in this town.”

When he laid eyes on Romano, an eyebrow was raised in amusement. He was clutching onto a frying pan. Now Lars had only seen someone fighting with a frying pan in two cases. One, cartoons. Two, Hungary. So either Lovino had been watching to much TV lately, or he was being inspired by the frying pan wielding woman. Either way, if it worked for the Italian at the moment, he wasn’t going to comment on it.

Though maybe it hadn’t been such a great idea to split up while searching the house. If something happened to one of them without the other noticing, the one left behind would be alone. In a place like this, that wasn’t a very good scenario. “But let’s stick together in case something happens.”

The Italian noticed Lars’ eyes drift to the frying pan and his face turned red. “It’s the only thing I could find,” he grumbled. “I didn’t see any more of the bigger knives and the ones in there were too small to be of any use.” He shifted, trying to move the frying pan from view; he knew it was a pretty obvious move, but he didn’t care. It would help him feel a bit better…and he needed something to lift his spirits. Lars had really scared him back there…not that he would ever admit it.

Lovino nodded.
“That sounds like a good idea to me.” He wasn’t sure he wanted to split up any time soon. The thought of being alone with whatever was in this house wasn’t appealing; Lovino didn’t cope well with insects…or animals or anything… especially not when he was already on edge. Hopefully having someone else here would help him feel more at ease…

“Which rooms did you already search?”
he asked after a long moment, looking around the hallway. Part of him was eager to start looking around while another part of him was apprehensive.

Lars shrugged at Lovino’s defence about the frying pan and his attempts to hide it from him. “I’ve searched that bedroom over there and this bathroom. There wasn’t anything of use in there. Everything looks like somebody was supposed to be living here, but they never arrived here. It’s all way to clean.” Lars said. “Did you find something downstairs?”

Save from the rooms Lars had already searched, there was just one more door in the hallway. Lars made his way over, opened the door and looked inside. Strangely, the room had no windows, so it was completely dark except from the light flowing in from the open door. His hand searched the wall for a light switch, flipping it when he found it. Nothing happened. After flipping it again a couple of times, Lars gave up and felt in his pocket, relieved to find his lightener there. He had been so caught up in finding out what was going on that he hadn’t even smoked a cigarette yet after he woke up. Though now was not the time. He would have time for that later.

The small flame of the lightener didn’t do much to illuminate the room. Only the things Lars held the flame close to were visible. The darkness seemed a bit thicker than usual. It was strange, and it made him a bit uncomfortable. On top of that he had the feeling someone was watching them. But when he looked around, nobody was there. He was getting a bit paranoid due to this ghost town, damn it.

He walked around the room, shining the little light on various objects. It turned out to be a bedroom for a little kid. There was a little bed in the corner of the room, littered with stuffed animals. And yet again, every sign of life seemed to be missing.

“I didn’t really get a chance to look at anything,” Lovino replied with a frown. “I was heading to the end of the floor when you ended up distracting me. So we’re going to have to look around the whole floor.“ The Italian frowned as he followed Lars to the last room in the hallway and sighed. This place looked so weird. Why was everything so…normal? If this town was abandoned…shouldn’t it be more…well…

He pushed his thoughts away and kept up with the older man, trying not to stray away. And then they were in a room without any light…and Lovino was definitely freaked out. He let out a soft sigh of relief when Lars pulled out the lighter; it didn’t provide much light, but there was enough to see a little bit.

"What the hell’s up with this place?” the Italian asked, hesitantly reaching up to grab the back of Lars’ shirt. He heard a noise from behind him and jumped, jerking his hand backwards. He didn’t want to show his fear, but it was sort of hard not to when he was trembling. “Did you hear that…?” he hesitantly asked, taking a deep breath to try to calm himself down.

The two people in the house did not seem to notice their third companion. It was a huge spiderlike creature with ten hairy legs and a single eye. It crawled on the ceiling, watching them with its large eye. They smelled of fear, the smaller one especially. It followed them as they made their way towards the room at the end of the hall, hopping down to the floor. Once they stopped, an appendage reached out and brushed against the Italian's neck, pulling back in surprise upon hearing him speak, hissing in annoyance.

The Italian voiced what Lars had been wondering for a while now. “I don’t know… But I’ll find out.” Lars answered Lovino, even more determined to find out what was going on. This wasn’t a normal abandoned town, that much was for sure. The place looked normal enough though. But that was exactly what had him nervous. And the other clinging to his back right now didn’t really help in making him relax.

Lars quickly looked around as Romano heard something. In the poorly-lit room, he missed the unknown creature that was watching them. He was sure there was nothing here. Romano was known for being a bit of a coward. He was probably getting paranoid and imagining things. No need in getting nervous for nothing. He took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down before he answered. “It was probably just the house creaking. There’s nobody else here.” If there had been someone else, they would’ve heard footsteps. Or they would’ve made themselves known. If they were other nations at least. If there was someone else in this house, then that meant they weren’t the only ones stuck here in the town.

A shiver ran down Lovino's spine as he felt something cold brush against his neck. His hand automatically flew up to touch the area, his fingers warming the cold area. A soft hiss escaped his lips accompanied by a sharp stinging sensation. Goddamn it. Ignoring the pain in his wrist, he turned around, trying to figure out what the hell was happening. Maybe Lars was right and it was just the house...even if it looked like it was in good condition. There was nothing in his line of vision except for the blurry outline of some furniture. The Italian took a deep breath, his fingers tightening their grip on the other's shirt. There was no way he was letting go until they were out of this damn house and he could feel safe again.

"I guess you're right..." he murmured softly, his eyes roaming around the room again. He just wanted to leave this damn room and continue their search. maybe a different house would be better...or the dining room seemed normal enough... "We almost done in here?"

This just would not do. It couldn't stand the gnawing hunger anymore. It wanted to eat them both right then and there. To feel the delicious sensation of snapping their bones between it's jaws. Yes, now was the perfect time to strike. With an earsplitting shriek, it lurched into the room and jumped onto the small Italian man. He smelled delicious and compared to his companion, looked like his flesh would not be as tough to tear into.

It drooled at the prospect of such a delicious meal, hissing dangerously at the other. There was no way it was going to share.

Of course he was right. There were no such things as monsters or ghosts. It was all in their head. The abandoned town was just getting to them a bit. “Yes, I don’t think there’s much more-” Lars didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence, since something startled him. Something that looked like a enormous spider had just jumped out of the darkness and onto Lovino. Lars stumbled backwards from the shock, and he felt the other’s hands let go of his shirt. It took a few moments for the Dutchman to comprehend what was happening, but once he got his senses back, he immediately rushed to the Italian’s side. The unknown creature wasn’t keen on letting him get close though. A dangerous hiss could be heard as Lars approached.

The Dutchman’s determination faltered a bit as he caught a glimpse of the monster’s numerous sharp teeth. Though he didn’t let it scare him off for long. It looked like Lovino was going to be eaten any moment now. And though he didn’t hold particularly warm feelings towards the Italian, but he couldn’t let him get eaten here like this either. Besides, if he got Lovino killed now, Spain would probably try to kill Lars in return.

Without wasting much more thought on the subject, he took a hold of the still unloaded gun that he had stuck in the back of his pants earlier. Lars practically jumped onto the creature that was holding the Italian captive. With the gun he hit every spot of the monster he could reach, making sure his blows were as hard as he could manage. It was very much possible that he hit Romano a couple of times in the process. Though Netherlands didn’t stop to think about that right now. The most important thing was getting whatever it was off of Lovino, so he would not get devoured.

Lovino did not expect to be jumped by an evil, giant, spidery creature. A shocked yelp escaped his lips as he fell to the ground, his fingers letting go of Lars' shirt as he tumbled towards the ground, the thing still on top of him. "F-fuck!" he exclaimed in a wild panic, flailing as he tried to push the creature away from him. He hated spiders and the giant one on top of him wasn't helping him change his mind. Those sharp teeth brushed against his skin, puncturing the flesh. But he didn't care. This fucking thing was going to eat him. Where the hell was Lars?

Apparently the Dutchman seemed to get over his fear and started beating the monster. Thank God for small favors. He tried to crawl away from the creature while it was distracted, but his attempts didn't work. It's grip on him was too strong; he couldn't break away. Trying to keep the tears from his eyes, the Italian continued to fight back only to have the Dutchman hit him with the gun.

"What the hell!?" he exclaimed, his voice cracking as he continue to kick the creature, his hands flying to protect his head as Lars continued to hit the creature. At this rate, Lars was going to kill him before the monster could.

Right when it was about to get to eating the prey it had trapped, it was disturbed by the pointy haired human it had left free. Well, that was rather irritating, the pointy one apparently liked to hit. The gun in the Dutchman's hand was actually quite painful and the constant blows were making it difficult to eat. It looked like it would have to fight to earn this meal...was the Italian even worth it? Sure he looked tasty, but perhaps there were other meals he could find, ones that didn't hit so hard.

Now, to take care of that annoying tall one. Snarling in pain and annoyance, the creature pounced on Lars, using the impact to bite into the arm holding the gun, only to pull back instantly, hissing and spitting. This one tasted foul, not even worth it. Quickly it made its way to the window and crawled out, but not before giving the rooms inhabitants one final growl.

Man, was it hard to find a decent meal these days.

Lars continued to smash the gun at the creature as hard as he could, though it seemed to be quite persistent. Apparently the Italian was a meal that he did not want to let go of. The snarls he was getting out of the thing told him that he was at least managing to do some damage though. And soon he found that the grip of the monstrous spider on Lovino was weakening. Instead the thing decided to pounce on the Dutchman himself! Lars hadn’t expected this, and the impact of the creature hitting his body caused him to be knocked over.

As he landed on the floor, he felt sharp teeth puncturing the skin of his arm. He let out a small yelp and released the grip he had on his gun from the pain and surprise. Now he had nothing to defend himself with but his fists and feet. But apparently (and luckily) he didn’t suit the creature’s tastes. He threw a final kick in the monster’s direction as it fled, hoping it hurt a fucking lot.

He groaned as he gripped at his bleeding arm. He stayed down for a moment to catch his breath. Once he had managed that, he got up and walked towards the Italian. Lars held out his left arm to help him up, since that one wasn’t a bleeding mess.

As he hoisted him to his feet, he saw that the other also had some cuts, though most likely not as deep as the ones on Lars’ arm. Still, they needed to be taken care of, just like his own. The Dutchman didn’t feel like getting ill from some foreign infection any time soon. “We better go find some alcohol to disinfect these.” Lars proposed, gesturing at their wounds. “Whatever that was, it probably had rabies.”

Oh shit. It was going to eat him, wasn’t it? The Italian closed his eyes, his movements becoming faster and harder. Fear took over and adrenaline pumped through his veins as he tried in vain to get the stupid thing off of him. …Until suddenly it stopped. His feet were hitting the air and the warmth from the creature was gone. …So where the hell did it go? Lovino’s eyes shot open, green eyes darting around the room to find out where the creature went.

And shit! It got Lars! The Italian tried to push himself to his feet, hissing in pain as he fell back to the ground, unable to support himself. Goddamn it. He didn’t want to be this weak… didn’t want to have to lean on someone else for support. He frowned, trying to get up again as the creature fled, cursing his strength for what he doubted would be the last time. Lovino really needed to find someway to get a bit stronger or he was never going to survive on his own…or be able to protect Feliciano.

A hand brought the Italian out of his thoughts and he looked up at the Dutchman, blinking at the offered help. He mumbled a soft thanks under his breath, his cheeks turning a light shade of red as he climbed to his feet, stumbling a bit as he tried to regain his balance. “Do you remember seeing any in the kitchen?” he asked, trying to ignore his throbbing wounds.

“…And that thing better not have had rabies, Goddamn it.” That...would have pissed him off. He didn’t need to get infected with a disease or get sick while he had a mission to accomplish. He didn’t want to get sick until after they got out of here either. He just wanted to get home and curl up in his bed, trying to forget about this Goddamn town.

…And the next time he got an invitation, he wasn’t going to go alone.

“You think alcohol’s going to work to disinfect everything?” Lovino really, really hoped Lars would say yes. If not, he was going to continue to worry.

Lars helped the Italian up, only letting go of him when he was mostly sure Lovino wouldn’t fall down again. When he was asked if he had see anything in the kitchen, the Dutchman shook his head. “Not in the kitchen, but I think I saw a liquor cabinet in the living room.”

He understood Romano’s worry for the situation, but it annoyed him. He was not really helping at the moment. “Maybe.” Lars answered, not being one to intentionally give others false hope as well as just not wanting to make the effort to reassure the other. He didn’t know just what diseases that thing carried, and how much alcohol would be able to do against it. “If we can find something strong, like vodka, that’s our best chance.

Lars walked out of the room, expecting the Italian to follow. He went downstairs and into the living area. He went over to what he expected to be a liquor cabinet. After opening it, his suspicions were confirmed. A lot of bottles in different shapes, sizes and colours were lined up. The Dutchman looked through them until he found a large bottle with a clear liquid inside.

He took the cap off and smelled, identifying the strong scent quite easily. Yes, that was unmistakably vodka. He motioned Lovino to come closer. “Let me see your wounds. Where did it get you?”

Well, it wasn’t the yes he was looking for, but it wasn’t a no either. Either way, the response helped to calm his nerves a bit. He took a deep breath, running his fingers through his hair as he followed the Dutchman from the bedroom to the living room. His mind was racing and he was really hoping his companion was going to be able to help him calm it down. Because Goddamn it. He missed Antonio and now he couldn’t help but worry about the stupid idiot. And Feliciano wouldn’t leave his mind either…

Fuck. He really needed to stop thinking as soon as possible.

Vodka. He wasn’t a fan of the stuff, but Goddamn it, drinking some alcohol sounded like one of the best ideas he’d have in a while. He knew he would never be able to drink some of it but Goddamn it. He was allowed to hope, wasn’t he? Getting drunk sounded like heaven. He’d be able to just forget about everything and maybe…maybe get killed while stumbling around in his drunken stupor. That weird monster seemed to take a liking to him and Lovino wasn’t sure he wanted to risk getting killed… Nor did he really want to get eaten.

The Italian was brought out of his musings when he heard Lars speak and reality came crashing back.
“My arm’s pretty torn up,” he mumbled. “And it got my side when it jumped on me.” He bit his lip as he pulled his shirt away from the wounds. …When he got home, he was burning whatever was left of his clothing.

Lars bend down to look over Lovino’s injuries. It was worse than Lars’ own, but nothing he wouldn’t be able to treat with the right equipment. Right now they didn’t have the proper equipment though. he would have to improvise.

After that quick look at Lovino’s wounds, Lars put the vodka bottle down for a moment and looked around for anything he could use, a rag or something of the sort. Something he could rip up and use as bandages. Everything around was covered in dust though. If anything, that was only going to increase the chance of an infection.

For lack of something better, Lars took a hold of the sleeve of Lovino’s uniform. “Don’t whine.” He warned him in advance. A firm tug by the seams of the clothing, and the sound of fabric ripping filled the air. Lars had ripped the Italian’s sleeve off the jacket of his uniform. It wasn’t ideal, but it was necessary. He didn’t have anything else to use, and the wound had to be treated.

The Dutchman proceeded to rip the fabric into smaller straps to create some makeshift bandages. A piece of the fabric he drenched in vodka. He dabbed the wound on Lovino’s arm with the damp cloth in an attempt to disinfect it. “This will sting a little.” He added as an afterthought. Lars held a strong grip on his hand, in case he would struggle or try to pull his arm back.
